DISH OF THE DAY

Today I am looking at the ‘World Television’ camera seen in Thunderbirds.

Danger at Ocean Deep

This Camera is made using inflight dishes from the defunct British airline BEA.
These dishes were what your inflight meal would be served in during the flight and came in various shapes and sizes.

I can only presume that some were half-inched during a flight by light fingered Fred! and given to the props department.

BEA Dishes

The camera is made from two dishes joined together with a ‘chicken head’ knob (probably from an electric iron) and small round model kit car wheels from ‘revell’, These Wheels pop up all over Thunderbirds, see if you can spot them.

Revell Car Wheels

The other side of the camera can be seen here, with the Revell wheels inside the camera and also used as the eyepiece.

City Of Fire

The same shaped dish also appears in Thunderbird One, seen here behind Kyrano, sprayed Gold.

Martian Invasion

Another shaped dish in the BEA range appears in various episodes

BEA dishes

As seen here in Thunderbird One, can you spot it? along with various electrical test meters and drainers from soap dishes!

TB1 Set

Also seen here in the same scene as the ‘World Television’ camera in ‘City of Fire’ but sprayed Silver (with a Revell wheel again!)
